YLB has embarked on developing club basketball teams for boys and girls, collectively called Yorba Linda Swish.
Lately, we have been bewildered by a phenomena that seems to be growing in youth sports. There is a constant search amongst parents and players to be on the “best team” that wins the most games and tournaments. It is no longer enough for our children to play on a local youth or high school teams and enjoy the experience of playing sports. But the more we think about it, the more we ask ourselves why not enjoy both…trying to be the best team possible AND enjoy the experience of playing with friends. Rather than try to find the “best team,” we realize that we can try to create them.
YLB Swish was originally formed as a local girls club team and recently new teams were formed for 7th & 8th grade girls. Then, in June we also started a 13u boys team for current 6th & 7th grade boys. Both teams play competitively during the summer months May through September. The goal is to expose the boys to a more competitive level of play and develop skills necessary to eventually play at the high school level, but more importantly is to have fun, play well together, and is competitive with other teams from around the county.
The girls teams continue to search for new players. For questions please contact Girls Coach Julio Galvan at firstname.lastname@example.org . The boys team will be re-evaluated in September.
